Sales Policy
We are happy you are interested in our Nigerian Dwarf-Pygmy goats. We love our herd and take pride in our pet-quality kids!
Weaning/Early Sales
All of our kids are dam-raised. We do not typically sell kids as bottle babies, as we believe staying with their dam provides them with the strongest start to life. We reserve kids to waitlisted applicants first once they are born, and retain them till they are at least eight weeks of age and weaned to quality goat ration and hay.
Disbudding
We do not disbud our own goats, as we believe horns are a natural and helpful part of the animal. We use our herd for petting zoos with small children without issue. However, we understand that some families may want disbudding done. We can offer this service at the buyer’s expense performed by our vet before the time of pickup with proper painkiller administration. The vet fee is typically approximately $150 for this service, subject to change. We also have many members of our herd who are naturally polled (hornless) and produce naturally hornless babies as an option.
Reservation
Once all pregnant does have kidded, we send out the info on all available kids to our approved waitlist applicants. By order of joining, each applicant will then have a maximum of 24 hours to confirm their kid choice(s). No kid is considered reserved without a deposit. A spot on the waitlist therefore does not guarantee you a goat (ie. if you are last on the waitlist, goats may be reserved before your assigned slot).
In the best interest of our goats, we reserve the right to deny an applicant access to the waitlist if their application form is incomplete or gives the impression a buyer may not be prepared for ethical goat keeping (ie. no access to shelter).
Deposit
When reserving a goat, priority is given to waitlist applicants. A potential buyer must offer a deposit the equivalent of half the total cost. The remaining half is paid at or before the time of pickup. Goats do not leave our farm till the full cost has been paid. Please note we can offer receipts. The deposit is non-refundable, with the exception of extenuating circumstances at the seller’s discretion. If the buyer is not present and cannot be contacted after the agreed upon pickup date, the farm will wait three days maximum before re-listing the goat(s) for sale.
Lasting Soundness
While our herd is healthy and has regular vet checks, no goat is sold with a guarantee of fertility, longevity, or lasting soundness. The health of the animal is the responsibility of the buyer once the animal leaves the farm. Our herd is closed and clean, and it is the buyers’ responsibility to ensure they are happy with the quality of the goat before leaving the farm. All goats are sold with FULL disclosure of any concerns or history of concerns.
Policy on Wethering (castration)
Wethered bucklings make fantastic, docile pets. However, more and more research has emerged showing links between early wethering and Urinary Calculi (UC). Therefore, in consultation with our vet, we have made the decision to not offer goats castrated before 14 weeks of age, and only in specific circumstances. Once a wether leaves the farm, it is crucial to feed a hay-based diet and avoid rich grains, as this can also cause Urinary Calculi in wethers. It is the buyer’s responsibility to research UC and consult with vets. If a castrated buckling develops Urinary Calculi once off of our farm, the buyer assumes responsibility of the situation and any fees associated with the treatment. Sale preference is given to buyers looking to buy intact males.
